This is a visual resource to support students in matching pennies to amounts up to 10p. Sensory stories are short and best repeated a number of times. To support students learning descriptive vocabulary; stripy, spotty, shiny, furry, smooth, rough, spiky, soft and hard. Match the communication in print word and image (laminate and cut - I recommend printing and laminating more than one copy- one to be cut so that it only matches the correct answer and one cut straight across for when they get better at it!) I also match with objects with these qualities for a wider understanding. With Makaton prompts to aid understanding and language.

Communicate in Print choice board for 3-stage sensory circuit. Stage 1 - alerting - wakes the body up Stage 2 - organising - knowing where your body is in space Stage 3 - calming- calm down and get ready to learn. This is a multi sensory, plain English version of The Little Mermaid. The story is based on the Ladybird Favourite tales version. It has been rewritten in simple language. The equipment is detailed so you can make a shopping list! The multi sensory elements are described throughout the story, but feel free to adapt to suit your needs, or if you have a better idea! I will be using the resource with secondary age, SEN (SLD / MLD/ complex needs) students for Literacy lessons. The ‘chapters’ are quite short, so each chapter can be used as a sensory story.
